How Much Is My New Furnace Installation Really Going To Cost?

How much does a new furnace cost? … or … What’s the price of a new furnace?

Those are the obvious first questions that come to mind for anyone when they find out it’s time to replace their old furnace. Most companies won’t give you even a ballpark price until you meet with one of their salesmen in your home first. If you’ve read our blog much, you already know I think withholding information about furnace prices is a terrible way to treat potential customers.

On the other hand, some heating companies will advertise ridiculously low furnace prices in those neighborhood coupon magazines and coupon packs that come in your mailbox. Just last month I came across an ad in one of these mailers that offered a new furnace installed for $1,795. Now if you’ve done much research on the cost of a new furnace, you know this price is ridiculous, and you probably already know what the catch is…

THE BAIT

THE SWITCH

You guessed it! $1,795 is probably just the starting point, AND it’s usually for the smallest furnace they offer (60,000 BTU’s) which is only powerful enough to heat very small spaces, something like a 900 s.f. condo for example. Because you’re almost certainly going to need a bigger furnace to properly heat your home, that’s going to cost extra. Most likely quite a bit extra!

Need a permit? Nope, that’s not included either. There’s another $200 or so you can add to the price. New thermostat? Yeah, that’s gonna be extra too.

Oh wait, you want a better furnace than the ‘builder-grade’ one you can get this great ‘deal’ on? The furnace that comes with better warrantees? Well, now we’re talking about a lot of extra money.

As you can imagine, it’s not likely that anyone is going to get a new furnace installed for $1,795. At least not without a bunch of extra charges being tacked on for things that are included as standard by reputable companies.

As the old saying goes, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.

As the old saying goes, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. Yet people still fall for this type of misleading furnace ad every day.
